Why is this needed?

Portal has existed for 7+ years without any solid rules, but there have been cases of misuse and abuse previously. Different people have had different ideas about what constituted abuse so this page is being created in an attempt to clarify what Portal should not be used for. The rules should remain pretty loose.

This is an early attempt, and the rules will be refined as needed. You will receive a notification whenever the rules have been updated.

What must not be done:

1. Spamming or harming the Portal site. No registered user has ever done this before, and it probably won't become a problem.
     1st offense: Removal from site. Unless there is a very good reason not to.

2. Sharing your Portal account
     1st offense: Temporary deactivation
     2nd offense: Banned
     Please ask others to apply for their own account. It may take a while to be accepted, but we usually don't reject without a good reason.

3. Using Portal to support botting accusations off site.
     1st offense: Warning
     2nd offense: Temporary deactivation
     3rd offense: Banned

Feel free to discuss bots in the Portal shoutbox, forums and chat. NEVER use Portal to accuse someone of botting on Gaia, no matter how obvious they are. Never use Portal to support a botting accusation when reporting a bot to Gaia's moderators (most of them have never heard of Portal). Never post data or screenshots from Portal to back a botting accusation up. In short, Portal's data is collected by watching the fishing stats page, and is often fallable. The Gaia mods have access to stats taken directly from the fishing database, which is not fallable. They can and will find and remove bots, so there is no need to create drama by making accusations.

What should not be done:

1. Creating drama on Portal. There is just no need to!

What can be done:

Almost anything else! Use common sense, and ask a Portal admin if you have any questions. You are free to link to Portal, use Portal as often and as much as you want and use the data to gain as much of a fishing advantage as possible!
